Azalea....?  I've been in the desert so long I forgot!  ;)

Posted by Sharon Lord - Argent Decor - AZ Vacation Home Furnishing Service (Argent Decor) about 1 year ago

Sharon, I'm actually looking for the correct answer myself because I want to know the type of flower this is! :)

Here is the tree that it belongs to:

I am going to say rhododendron,  This is from my Washington state background.  Rhodes grow great there.

Beautiful photo! Thanks for sharing! I'm guessing azalea also!  Hey, I noticed your "protected by COPYSCAPE". I'm going to have to use that on my site...as I've had problems with stolen photos !! :)

Leilani, Isn't it beatiful!  I would love when in my yard.  I hope someone has the answer.

Phil, I will "ask the experts" over in a gardening forum I sometimes frequent. :)

It looks like an azalea to me! What is a copyscape?

Posted by Joni Staples, CRS ♥ Broker Associate (936) 650-9017 (Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate - Anderson Properties) about 1 year ago

Sonja, glad to introduce you to copyscape...and if it's an azalea, then it has to be the most "grandiose" of azaleas that I've ever seen! :)

Leilani, It looks like an Azelia to me too.  Take a piece to one of the nurseries there in Loomis or Roseville if ever in doubt.  Great color on that flower!!!

Whatever it is, it is lovely and I would like to have it in my garden.  Going to check out copyscape.  If you aren't an affiliate of them you should be if they have an affiliate program and then you could capitalize on your promotion of them.

Leilani, My vote is for rhododendron. There are azaleas in bloom near my house and they do not have the green in between the flowers when in bloom like rhododendron or your plant does.  The flowers are dominate.  -- Gloria

Leilani,

I vote with the rhododendron folks.  They do not grow well in Southern California unless you ice them with ice cubes during the winter, however, they do well in your area.  Have a great Thursday!  A

It sure is beautiful, Marchel...and I'd love to have this in my yard, whatever it is! :)

Joni, another vote for azalea, huh? I'm going to post the two photos on the gardening forum and I'll betcha that I get the answer within 24 hours. :)

P.S. If you click on the "Copyscape" button below the photo, it will take you directly to the website.

DeeDee, I just posted the pics on the gardening forum...I'll update this page with the correct answer as soon as I get it! :)

Samantha, I don't think copyscape has an affiliate program...but I'm happy just being able to post their link on my site if it helps discourage plagiarism. FYI, the copyscape image is in my AR signature so I don't have to input it in every blog post. :)

Gloria, if only I could see a close-up view of the photo you posted, I may be able to compare the flowers with the one I'm trying to identify. I have no idea whether it's a rhododendron, azalea or something else that hasn't been mentioned so far...but I think I'll find out shortly! :)

Alexandra, it looks like the score is Azalea 4, Rhododendron 3...so far! :)

I would name her "Beautiful" I think she's a Rhodie too. I've never seen a double Azalea like that. Very nice, Leilani.

Posted by Toni Weidman- New Port Richey-FL Homes (Re/Max Sunset Realty-Trinity-Holiday-Port Richey-Hudson) about 1 year ago

Hi Leilani, When azaleas are in bloom here in PA, the flowers overtake the plant.  The leaves are under the total top cover of flowers, not like your tree with much green leaves showing. Gloria

Leilani, I couldn't tell you what that beautiful flower is, but I bet you that Roy Kelley could quite easily. He's always taking pictures of flowers and is very knowledgeable.

Toni, I would also name her "Beautiful"! :)

Ah yes, Gloria...thanks for posting these pictures. Although the color is similar to the azalea, these are definitely not azaleas. :)

Malcolm, it seems that we have our own share of flower experts here on ActiveRain...the flower is a...(drum roll)...RHODODENDRON CV! :)

Leilani, Glad your mystery is solved!  It is beautiful and looks like it has been around a number of years!

Enjoy!

I agree, Gloria...this is quite possibly the most beautiful rhododendron I'll ever have the pleasure of seeing! Thanks for all of your help identifying this "mystery" flower! :)
