Would A Buyer NOT Buy A Home On A Street With A "Funny" Name?

Would A Buyer NOT Buy A Home On A Street With A "Funny" Name?

Most buyers find their homes based on the location, condition, features, size and price. I've had buyers consider the direction the front door faces and even the house number...but would a buyer NOT buy a home on a street because of its name? So far, I haven't had that experience...but I also have not shown property on:

Itchy Acres Road, Granite Bay, CA 95746
Itchy Acres Road is located in Granite Bay, California. Poison oak, anyone?

No Name Road, Loomis, CA 95650

No Name Road is located in Loomis, California. Yup, that's what the sign says. Who's on first?

Rickety Rack Road, Loomis, CA 95650

Rickety Rack Road is located in Loomis, California. It's safe to drive on...really.

Another one that makes me smile is Racetrack Circle in Rocklin, California..."but, Officer..."

Do you have any "funny" street names in your area that you'd like to share?

Bob, thanks for the smiles.  It reminded me of driving through Port Charlotte, FL with my sister many years ago and seeing the sign for Burnt Store Road.  Both of us thought "so the store burnt down, get over it."  Then we proceeded to act out the many reasons they were distraught over losing their beloved store.  We had such a hoot on our way up to Tampa.

Maggie, thanks for sharing your story about "Burnt Store Road"! That's one street name I've never heard of...until now! :)

Well here in our area of Southwest Idaho we have Chicken Dinner Road and Frozen Dog Road!  LOL

Awww, Deborah...that makes me think that the poor doggie froze on his way to Chicken Dinner Road! Thanks for sharing your "funny" street names of Southwest Idaho! :)

Funny post that hits on the ticks some buyers have.  I once had a buyer who wouldn't buy the home they loved because of the subdivision name...said it offended them.

I definitely have had buyers not want to purchase a home because of the street name.  Would you want to live on Bloody Acres Road, Witches Hollow Land?

Too funny.  I can't think of any where I am now, but i used to live in an area that had: ox road, old ox road as well as Lee Hwy and Old Lee Hwy.  Go figure.

What a great blog post. Something like this has never crossed my mind!  I think that it would be a novelty and fun!

Leilani, I had clients not buy a property here in Denver --- Hooker Street!    See was single....  GREAT post!   Should get FEATURED!

Leilani,

I remember a community that banded together to get the name of their road changed.  Funny thing is I don't remember either of the road's names. Does that mean neither of them was that bad or... that good. ( I smile)

Anita, thanks for sharing your story, but...you're not going to share the name of the subdivision? :)

Ouch, Kathy...now Bloody Acres Road is something I would not even consider myself, but if I absolutely LOVED everything about a home on Witches Hollow Land, I think I might consider it! ("I'm not a witch. I'm you.") ;p

Chris, we have a lot of the "old" additions to street names around here too, like "Auburn Road" and "Old Auburn Road".

One that is particularly funny to me is "Old Dude Road" (in Auburn, CA) even though there isn't a "Dude Road"! There's also "Old Dirt Road" but no "Dirt Road". :)

I've had this blog post topic written in my journal of blog post ideas for months now, Kate...and I'm just now finally getting around to writing it. I'm glad I did because at first I wasn't sure if it was a bit too "silly" to write about! :)

Joan, I'm with your buyer on that one...can you imagine having to order address labels for a street like that??? Geez! :)

You're right, Steve...it must not have been that _____ if you don't remember either name, old or new! :)

Leilani, great post....my husband said there is a road called "Skunk Hollow Road"...wouldn't want to live there.  I suggested this in hopes to hear many other road names from members across the U.S.

Thanks for suggesting this post, Rebecca! Skunk Hollow Road? I wonder if that's where Pepe LePew lives... :)

I haven't had that experience either but it is funny that you wrote this post.  Earlier this month I saw a road and I remember thinking "I would never want to live on this road!"  I think the name was Satans Way or something to that effect.  It was HORRIBLE.

Posted by Debra Walsh Hudson Valley NY Real Esta 845.294.8800 (Keller Williams Realty Goshen, NY - Realtor) over 1 year ago

Eek, Debra...Satans Way is one place I'm staying the h#ll (pun intended) away from! :)

Leilani--I think all cities had their odd names.  We have Lindsey Poisen, a reporter for the Erie Times News write stories of unusal street names, communities, etc.

Posted by Mary Yonkers (Howard Hanna/Alan Kells Schools of Real Estate) over 1 year ago

Mary, of all the California cities I've lived/worked in (Mountain View, Palo Alto, San Jose, Los Gatos, Brentwood and Discovery Bay) I haven't come across any street names as "funny" as the ones I've listed in my OP. Now Lindsey's stories would be interesting reading! :)

Leilani--My brother used to live in Mountain View and my former brother-in-law still lives in San Jose.  It has been a long time since I was out there. (1984)  Small world, isn't it?

On Maui we have an Easy Street... and it would be a nice place to live, though not cheap.

Georgina, Easy Street on Maui is really fitting for the name...it's a lot "easier" for mainlanders to say AND spell than the typical Hawaiian street names, that's for sure! :)

Hi Leilani~ I guess great minds think alike.  I have a list of some other WEIRD street names.  That's another post for another day!  And to answer your question....I believe in some cases buyers probably would NOT buy because of a street name.  The funny this is that I DID sell a house on Hooker Street.  (It was a couple, not a single girl.)

Posted by Donna Foerster, Metro Denver Real Estate Agent (Rocky Mountain Real Estate Advisors) over 1 year ago

Thanks for stopping by, Donna...and I agree! It is interesting that your buyer couple was okay living on Hooker Street, yet I'm not surprised that Joan's single female buyer was not. :)
