Sogno Winery in Shingle Springs, CA (El Dorado County, California)
Sogno Winery is the best-kept secret in the Greater Sacramento Area ("Sogno" means "dream" in Italian and is pronounced "sewn-yo".) I would rank them as the #1 Northern California Winery outside of Napa/Sonoma Wine Country because they not only make an extensive selection of wines...but they really know how to make exceptional bottles of wine!
A visit to the Sogno Winery in Shingle Springs is a delightful way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It is located between El Dorado Hills and Placerville on Highway 50, just before Red Hawk Casino. Sogno Winery offers a large wrap-around patio with lots of seating that overlooks their vineyards.
Just to give you an idea, here are the wines I enjoyed enough to take home during my two visits to Sogno Winery in Shingle Springs, California (the ones in bold are my favorites among my favorites):
- 2004 Giocchino
- 2004 Port
- 2004 Primitivo
- 2004 Sangiovese
- 2004 Syrah
- 2004 Tempranillo
- 2004 Vermiglio
- 2005 Barbera
- 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
- 2005 Merlot
- 2005 Zinfandel
- 2006 Orange Muscat
In addition to their fabulous wines, did you know that they also do corporate events and weddings for up to 250 people?

Leilani, we love wine and going to wineries. When we visited Italy with our friends in 2006, we stopped at one winery and loved the wine and purchased a case. Unknowingly, that it would cost more to ship back to the US then what we paid for the wine. We actually carried 4 bottles back with us in our suitcases. WOW, we were lucky, the bottles were not broken (I wrapped them really good). Enjoyed the wine tremendously.
Sogno Winery sounds simply AMAZING! Great post highlighting all that they have and I LOVE the slideshow!
Leilani-Lovely slideshow of this beautiful winery. My husband and I are also fans of wine tasting, and wine in general. I see that one of the ports is your favorite. Willamette Valley Vineyards has a great port also. We were fortunate enough to taste it right out of the barrel. It was our favorite out of all the ones we tasted. I'm looking forward to them getting into bottles for purchase.
Rebecca, thanks for sharing your wine story from your trip to Italy! I'm glad the bottles arrived home safely, thanks to your careful packing...what a relief! :)

Thanks for the hyperlocal feature, Leesa! Sogno Winery is indeed amazing, in both their wines and the people...it's a family-owned winery and obviously a labor of love. The winemaker-owner even does the pruning and harvesting himself! :)

P.S. Glad you enjoyed LOVED the slideshow, Leesa! :)

Thank you, Mel! Bob and I are HUGE port lovers, so we should stop by Willamette Valley Vineyards the next time we're in Oregon...thanks for the tip! Isn't barrel tasting fun? We did that in the Livermore Wine Country (California) a couple of years ago, it was a blast! :)
