Battle of the Cameras Winner: Samsung HMX-U10 HD Ultra Compact Camcorder

Battle of the Cameras Winner: Samsung HMX-U10 HD Ultra Compact Camcorder

Samsung HMX-U10 HD Ultra Compact Camcorder

Yesterday, I posted three photos taken with three different cameras and asked viewers to vote on picture quality:

Poll - Rank These 3 Photos From Best To Worst (Battle of the Cameras)

Based on a majority vote, this is the order of cameras from best to worst:

  1. Photo C - Samsung HMX-U10 HD Ultra Compact Camcorder (pictured above)
  2. Photo A - Apple iPhone 3G
  3. Photo B - Casio Exilim EX-S880

Even though I'm in my 90-day trial period with the Samsung (purchased from Costco.com), I think it's a keeper based not only on its photo quality, but also its video quality and portability.

Here is the winning photo it took:

Where does the Flip go in this placement?

Posted by Maria Morton (Prudential Kansas City Realty) 2 months ago

Maria, I haven't tried a Flip...the Samsung was the first ultra compact camcorder I've purchased and I was only comparing it to the other cameras I have. :)

Leilani, wow, such a small thing to be a video camera! And it did take the best photo as far as I am concerned! Thank you for the report, now I will wait and see video you post!!!!

Andrea, this is probably the best $109 I've spent as far as gadgets go...so far, as I've only used it a few times since I got it. Here's a video I took with it on a cloudy afternoon, about an hour before sundown:

Leilani was the winner choice "A" or "C"?  I think I chose "C".

Interesting post. I have been thinking about something like this and haven't done any testing of my own. Thanks for posting

Sharon, it was close, but the winner was C! :)

You're welcome, Randy! I thought the best way to compare cameras was to take photos in the exact same conditions...and this shows how much the end result can vary depending on the camera! :)

I am beginning to notice that Costco is one of your favorite haunts and deservedly so!
Posted by Cheryl Ritchie, Southern Maryland Real Estate (RE/MAX 100) 2 months ago

Yes, Cheryl...when it comes doggie goodies and electronics, Costco is my first stop! I didn't buy my last camera (a red Casio) and my netbook (a red Gateway) from Costco only because they didn't carry what I was looking for...but I did look there first! :)

It's hard to beat CostCo's prices.  The camera is so small.  Cameras sure have come a long way.

They sure have, Irene...I remember the days of the huge Sony Mavica that used a floppy disk! :)

Great post, thanks for doing the comparison.  I too am a Costco shopper.  My first digital camera died and when I was shopping for a new one they practically insisted I bring it back.  It was 2 years old and wasn't Costco's fault but they gave me full purchase price back.

I have a couple of Samsung cameras here. They have been very reliable.

Happy New Year!

Leilani, small cameras can take great photos! In defense of the iPhone, I won a photography contest - actually 2nd place - CTann's Eye Candy - with shots from my iPhone :)
