General Motors announced today that Saab has reached the end of the road and will be discontinued. Saab employs about 3,400 people worldwide with the majority of its workforce located at its main plant in Trollhatten, Sweden. There are approximately 1,100 Saab dealers, who will continue to honor the warranties and offer parts to Saab owners.
- Saab was the first to offer heated seats in 1971.
- GM became 50% owner of Saab in 1989.
- GM gained full ownership of Saab in 2000.

I never paid attention that GM owned SAAB. The new GM's are really good looking cars, I hope they are competing with the quality.

Hi Leilani. I had no idea that GM owned SAAB. What a coincidence! I was listening to Sweeden's foremost vocalist, Carola. Are you daring enough to listen to a European who has won the prestigious "EUROVISION SONG CONTEST"???

It is unfortunate that SAAB will stop being manufactured as well as SATURN which is a GREAT CAR BRAND. Roger Penske (#2, #12, #77) was attempting to purchase Saturn and the sale could not be completed!!!
Hi Leilani, I will have to go over to Irene's blog. I hope there is an IKEA store in NW Indiana, and if so we may be going to the sale!!! I suspect it is the IKEA store on the north side of Chicago :-( and that is a trip I am unwilling to make!

I drove last weekend in a top of the model Saab and what a car and neat coffee cup holders! I hear Saab builds a better jet than its car

Wallace, just when I thought Saturn was actually starting to come out with a much better line of vehicles than they did in their early years...they were discontinued. Buell Motorcycles is also gone, now Saab. Unfortunately, I think this will be a continuing trend in the upcoming years. :(

Ty, I sat in a Saab convertible that just happened to be on the showroom floor when my husband was buying a truck...and I ended up buying a BMW instead. I know Saab does have their loyal following though. BTW, I don't remember the cupholders! :)
