Motivational Monday - Planning Your Path In Order To Reach Your Destination
Although I didn't do any rock climbing when I took this photo at the 2009 Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival last weekend, I have done it in the past. It is quite an exhilarating experience and one that I recommend to everyone to try at least once!
The adrenalin rush that overcame me as I climbed the rock was unlike anything I've felt before...it was more calming than exciting, if I could explain it in words. Rock climbing is a different adrenaline rush than public speaking, competing or speeding...it's more of a self-fulfillment rush.
A rock climbing experience also makes you choose the most useful tools to help you get to the top, meaning you use the strength in your legs to push yourself up instead of using your arms to pull yourself up.
Rock climbing exercises make you strategically plan your path in order to reach your destination.
Poor planning may result in failure to reach your goal...but if you fail, you can always try again.

This was not what I expected when I read the post title. I do see the analogy though even though I have never tried rock climbing.
Theodora, hopefully my post made you think how important proper planning is in order to achieve your goal...using the rock climbing example worked well for me because that photo inspired me to write this post! :)

When I look at that photo, why do I feel like I'm looking at a strawberry pulled through a straw?! But hey, anything that inspires us to push toward our personal destination is worthy.
How funny, Sherry...but now that you mention it, it looks like a strawberry popsicle with chocolate chips to me! :)

Thanks Leilani

Sounds like just another workday to me....
Great analogy, it is about planning what steps to take next and the easiest path !
Leilani - You really do plan your path when rock climbing. Plus you really keep your eye on the prize. Good business advice too! Thanks for the push in the right direction.
I have not done any rock climbing in 30 years since my ARMY days. Your so right just do it once and it will make a lot things very clear. YOU can do this!
Debbie, you're very lucky that your workday adrenaline doesn't wear out after daily use! :)
Fernando, I agree and I also prefer the path of least resistance, if at all possible. :)
Susan, it does make sense to work smarter by planning, not harder...and yes, you do keep your eye on the prize! :)
Frank, that's so great that you remember rock climbing 30 years ago...it's such a wonderful experience that I'm sure I'll also remember it 30 years from now! :)

I can't climb a flight of stairs. This looks daunting.....

Leilni We have a rock climbing wall in Gold's Gym - not for me Karen
Sure, Karen...I'm sure there are some things only suited to certain people. I give kudos to people who do triathlons, but personally...I have no desire to put myself through all that! :)
