Bob and Souza - Now that's a lot of pumpkin.  But what kind of pumpkin is that at the end of the pumpkin field?  LOL

Posted by Bob Murphy (Re/Max First) over 2 years ago

Wow! I did not know that. All I can say, there are a lot of pumpkins out there and they had to come from somewhere...

Helping you live your American dream...

Bob, not sure about the pumpkin question...maybe I'm missing something here? :)

Michael, there are literally SO MANY pumpkins in Half Moon Bay that a photo cannot possibly contain all of them unless it was an aerial photo! :)

Hi Bob & Leilani,

I had no idea Half Moon Bay was pumpkin capital of the world. I Did know it was home of 'Mavericks' though - one the legitimate big-wave spots of the world. And I think you have as many Great Whites as you do pumpkins. ; )

Thanks for sharing the interesting information. Hope you are having a most productive weekend.

Thank you, Michael...your comment inspired me to google "half moon bay pumpkin capital" and I found this SPEECHLESS post (a blog with NO text!) in the #3 spot...WOO-HOO!!! You are right about Mavericks and Great Whites, but now you have yet another trivia about HMB! :)

You're welcome, Roy...and I hope you are, too! :)

Bob and Leilani,

You know if I brought my kids here they would be confused... Do we go to Bouncie or look for pumpkins?  :0

Thanks

PG

Thanks for sharing that picture. I will share it with my eight year old daughter so she knows where pumpkins come from before the store.

That looks like a lot of fun for children and adults as well.  Thanks for sharing!

My, that's a lot of pumpkins. How many people do you think it took to move them all there?

Arthur and I used to live in San Mateo -Half Moon Bay was just over the hill - great for artichokes, too

Leilani - What a fantastic photo!  There is just something about pumpkins in the fall...

Half Moon Bay isn't only known by the numbers of pumpkins, it's known for the size of their pumpkins.  The area has been responsible for producing pumpkins that win awards for weight - often in the hundreds of pounds.

It's a delightful area of the California Coast.  When I was a kid, my dad would take me deep sea fishing out of Princeton-by-the-Sea, just 4 miles away.  However the area has grown to the point where Princeton has nearly been gobbled up by Half Moon Bay.

Leilani, a tid bid of information I didn't know...first Half Moon Bay being the pumpkin capital and the location of Half Moon Bay.  thanks,

Who knew?  Pumpkin capital eh?  Are you in the Guiness Book of Records?

Posted by Jane Peters - Los Angeles Real Estate DRE# 01439865 (Power Brokers Int'l) over 2 years ago

PG...how adorable! Of course, you would let them do both! :)

Me, too, Debbie! It's Castroville that's known for artichokes and Pescadero too, but it is the lesser known place. Being from Hawaii, I've never tasted artichokes until I moved to California and went to a little mom-n-pop restaurant in Pescadero and had deep-fried artichoke hearts...mmm!!! Did you know that artichoke flowers are a vibrant color purple? :)

Dave, that's a wonderful idea! I feel so proud to be a part of your daughter's learning experience! :)

You're welcome, Yvette & Dennis and Pat! :)

Lee & Carol, great question...wish I had the answer, but my guess is as good as yours! :)

Small world, Karen! Did you ever go to Pescadero for artichokes? :)

Charles, the smell of redwoods is just so delightful, isn't it? :)

I agree, Susan...Fall is my favorite time of the year! :)

Myrl, did you know the winners of this year's pumpkin contest were from Iowa (#1), Napa (#2 and #3) and Washington (#4)? 2008 winners were from Oregon (#1), Napa (#2), Washington (#3) and Oregon (#4) and 2007 winners were from Rhode Island, Washington and Oregon respectively. You're right, Princeton-by-the-Sea is actually considered Half Moon Bay by the USPS. :)

You just gave a great idea, Rebecca (thanks!)...I'm going to embed a Google Map into this blog post! :)

Jane, I'm not sure what I would be in the GBWR for, but I'm not even sure if they list agricultural capitals of the world! :)

My daughter was born on halloween and every year I look forward to at least going to ONE good pumpkim patch, too bad it is in California!

Posted by Lisa Matykiewicz (United Brokers Group) over 2 years ago

Awww, Lisa...that's so cute about your tradition! I hope you can find a good pumpkin patch in your local area, or at least one within reasonable driving distance. :)

Leilani

P.S. My dog Romeo was also born on Halloween! :)

That patch looks awesome!  I know PG mentioned his kids having a hard time deciding what to do first -- I think Jim would have the same problem :)

Myrl said what I had been thinking.  When I lived in the San Francisco area in the 1980's, I remember hearing about world record sized pumpkins from Half Moon Cay.  When I hear a story about pumpkins from Half Moon Cay, I automatically think "MASSIVE"!

Posted by Judy Kincaid (Destined To Sell ) over 2 years ago

That's funny, Maria! You would let him do both, too...that's my guess. :)

Judy, here are a couple of massive pumpkins that were at the Pumpkin Festival last weekend:

Pumpkins

P.S. I added a second pic of the pumpkin patch to my original post, just so you can see that there are a lot more pumpkins than what the first pic shows! :)

Leilani -- Now that's what comes to mind when I think of pumpkins in Half Moon Bay!  Glad to see they still have some great contenders.  Thanks!

Posted by Judy Kincaid (Destined To Sell ) over 2 years ago

You're welcome, Judy! I'm not sure where the pumpkins in the above photo came from, but it seems like the pumpkin contest winners have not been from Half Moon Bay at least in the past few years.
