Yummy. Are you from Hawaii? My daughter's name is Leilani & Souza is a common name here.
Aloha, Julie! Yes, I am a kama'aina from Hawaii...I grew up in Honolulu. Souza is a very common name (being Portuguese) but it is my married name. Thanks for stopping by! :)
I have a client here in Virginia and he has a small vineyard (about 20 acres) and they are hand-picked...
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Thanks for the comment, Charles! Some grape varieties are better hand-picked (such as Cabernet) but Chardonnay is conducive to being machine-picked since the fruit weighs heavy and it comes right off the stems. :)
Very nice photo. Those vines look plush and green. I hope that means lots of good wine:)
Aloha! I just worked with a wonderful customer from Hawaii who is relocating to the North Georgia Mountains! I've enjoyed hearing about her life in Hawaii.
Nice photos, Leilani, and talk about a labor saving device! Do you have any idea how many acres one person could harvest in a day with that harvesting machine?
Yvette and Dennis, I hope so too! We'll taste this year's harvest in 2011. :)
Donna, thanks for stopping by! I've never heard of the North Georgia Mountains, but now I'm interested in finding out more. :)
Thanks, Bruce! That machine harvested approximately 15 acres in about 10 hours or so. Here's a video for anyone interested (tip: turn down the volume, this machine is LOUD!):
Livermore Valley Wine Country - Grape Harvest 4
This reminds me of a movie I just saw: "Bottle Shock" about Chateau Mt Elaina and other Napa wines winning over French wines in 1976... LOVE their Cab!
Leilani - Crush time is so exciting for the vineyards...and the celebrations that follow for wine aficionados ;-)
Hi Robert, thanks for commenting! I've never heard of that movie, but now I'll definitely look it up...sounds like something I'd like to see. :)
Karen, thanks for stopping by and yes...crush season is my favorite season of the year! If only I could bottle the smell of the crush, I'd keep a stock year-round for me. :)
Leilani and Bob,
Didn't know the grapes could be machined-picked. That for the education and the post. :)
Steve
Glad my WW post taught you something, Steve...thanks for commenting! :)
Very cool....if you need a taste tester give me a holler :)
Thanks for reading my blog post, Mike! Actually, it's the winemaker that gives out the tasting invites...I'm just the winegrower. All I can do is invite you over to eat grapes! :)
