Sacramento, CA 95816 - Tapa the World (Spanish Restaurant in Midtown)
When I was in Lloret de Mar, Spain during Spring Break in 1988, I don't seem to remember any meals consisting of anything besides paella and sangria. Not that I'm complaining...I never got tired of it and now I wish I could spend another week feasting on paella and drinking sangria! Since I can't go on a trip to Spain at this time, the next best thing I found is to try this Spanish restaurant in Midtown Sacramento, Tapa the World.
We ordered the Paella Mixta (a combination of chorizo and seafood) which has a 2-person minimum order ($17.50 per person) and a wait time of 1 hour. While waiting, we tried their Tapas of the Day, grilled scallops topped with crab on a bed of sweet potato puree...absolutely DELICIOUS!!! This tapas dish was actually better than the Paella Mixta, which unfortunately lacked the crispy burnt part of the saffron rice that is the BEST PART of eating paella. Tapa the World's sangria ($20 for a pitcher) was excellent, so we will definitely go there again for that and some tapas.
Tapa the World is open daily from 11:30am to midnight. They are located at 2115 J Street in Midtown Sacramento, between 21st and 22nd Streets. If you come between 7:30pm and 9:30pm, you can enjoy Spanish Classical and Flamenco Guitar, performed live by Aswut Rodriguez, Hedayat Partovi, Moises Rodriguez or Greg Williams.
