Emergency food is something we all should consider stocking up on...you never know when you may have a need for it and the time may come sooner than you might expect. Just think, if your family was stuck in your home with no power and all stores closed for weeks at a time...how would you survive and for how long? If you don't live a self-sufficient lifestyle (e.g. on a farm with chickens, cows, orchard and vegetable garden) then emergency freeze-dried meals are a good option, since they also have a shelf life of 5-25 years, depending upon the product.

Costco members can purchase a variety of emergency food options from Costco.com, such as tropical fruits, fruits & veggies, cheeses, baking essentials (powdered eggs, instant milk, butter powder and shortening powder), protein & wheat and even gluten-free meals. To see the entire line of Costco offerings, you can visit Costco.com and use the search term "Emergency Food Kits & Supplies" or just click on the link provided. You can buy emergency food for as little as $29.99 (four entrees, one breakfast and one dessert) all the way up to $25,999.99 (for 10 pallets containing 360 buckets of 275 servings each - that's a whopping total of 99,000 meals!)

Another interesting product Costco.com offers is the HydroWell Water Filtration / Treatment system, which provides up to 8 gallons of clean drinking water per day from virtually any water source. They are selling this system for $299.99, which is just a little more than the alloted dollar amount for this contest entry.

This post is for the ActiveRain "I could save $220 with Kodak" contest. I have a chance to win a free Kodak Printer, $220 in cash to use for the idea in my blog post, and an extra $100 to use toward ink! Anyway, I specifically selected the above emergency food kit because it sells for $199.99 and by the time California sales tax is added, the grand total will be around $220. :)
